Apple Blossom
20/03/09
EgofreakyThis is a cocktail I’ve had under my belt for years. I make it at parties, and it’s a resounding success each time I do. My friend Shea has been bugging me to post it since I told her I’d be doing drink posts on a regular basis, so here it is my dear.
I got the idea for this one from a mocktail I spotted in, of all places, a Woman’s Day… Just don’t ask, ok?
Apple & chocolate can work together quite well, but it’s a combination rarely used as it’s a fine balance. This week, I’m going to show you how to walk that particular tightrope.
GLASS: Medium Martini or Marie Antoinette/Margarita Glass
INGREDIENTS:
- 45ml Manzana Apple Liqueur (or if you want to get really drunk, you can use Lark’s 40% Apple Schnapps)
- 30ml Mozart chocolate (or white chocolate) liqueur, or Cadbury’s liqueur
- 15ml white creme de cacao
- 60ml cream
- Chocolate or apple for garnish
METHOD: Shake & Strain
Place all your ingredients in a shaker, shake vigorously so that the cream thickens and foams a wee bit, and then pour.
The type of glass you have really changer the garnish you should consider using. For instance, a martini glass, you’d want to great some chocolate over the top, and maybe even rim the glass in it. Cadbury Flake is the best as it just crumbles, but you can grate whatever you like.
If you’re using a margarita glass though, you may want to consider some little tiwsts of apple peel or even an apple wedge or wheel.
Ultimately, the presentation of this drink has a real impact on perceived flavour. I’ve been told it’s very strongly apple flavoured by friends who get the apple wheels, and mostly chocolate by friends that get the chocolate rimmed glasses. This is despite the fact that you wouldn’t get enough chocolate from the rim to change the overall flavour after the very first sip, and fresh apples shouldn’t impart flavour that quickly.
Anyway, if you’re going out tonight, order one if the bar can do it. Just a note, Matchbox doesn’t.

Hey, woot. I can finally comment on this thing.
I’d like to add my personal recommendation to this one. Omnomnom.
Yep, that’s about it. No need for intelligence, it’s yummy and that’s that.
