Elder’s Flowers

22/05/09

Egofreaky

So if you haven’t figured it out by now, I have a penchant for bizarre liqueur that happens to be ludicrously difficult for the average person to find. If you happen to be one of these average people, that’s too bad. You could always, y’know, ask me where I get mine or something. Anyway, I got the idea for this one while I was at Gulag the other night.

Elders Flower

The oddly shaped bottle is rose liqueur. Found it at a Turkish deli.

This weeks drink is no less bizarre, being based on an Elder Flower liqueur: St Germains.

A delightful liqueur from France, it is basically distillate that’s been infused with Elder flower in a way that manages to be both forceful and rich, but is still infinitely more palatable than Parfait Amour.

Glass: Highball

Ingredients:

Method: Build & gently stir.
Place a decent quantity of ice in the glass, but don’t entirely fill it. Pour in the ingredients, first to last, and gently stir as you’re pouring in the soda. Don’t fill all the way, because you want to leave enough room to put the garnish in without the chance of it falling out of the glass.

Garnish: If you can find them, vanilla flowers would probably be the best thing. As you can see, I couldn’t find them, so I settled for some nicely dyed orchids, which are just as pretty, and actually edible… not that many people know that… or eat flowers. Goddamit, it was in Adaptation, people! I suppose, going with the floral theme, you could put it some cherry blossom petals (which has given me an idea for another drink).
