I've been chatting with a few of my friends about this sort of thing lately, and particularly how GitS really isn't all that far off from becoming reality. I don't know about the cyberising brain part, but all the "upgrades" and technology that they use to replace their parts, well it really isn't all that much of a stretch of the imagination.

Between GitS and Richard Morgan's "Takeshi Kovacs" novels (and Shadowrun/D20 Future), there is more than enough cyberpunk mythology that could become reality in the coming years, and I'm really curious to see how it all pans out.

Technically if the quality of the cybernetic replacement is good enough, you've not only been repaired, bue enhanced as well, in which case get your arse to the back of the queue so us normally-abled folk have a chance :P
Seriously though, if I do get damaged, I will want to replace it, and if I can have a few nifty bonuses, why not?
