I don't know about the cyberising brain part, but all the "upgrades" and technology that they use to replace their parts, well it really isn't all that much of a stretch of the imagination. Between GitS and Richard Morgan's "Takeshi Kovacs" novels (and Shadowrun/D20 Future), there is more than enough cyberpunk mythology that could become reality in the coming years, and I'm really curious to see how it all pans out.
