Halloween Cocktail 5: Drunken Pumpkin Punch
30/10/09
EgofreakyThis particular drink turned out to be a lot more difficult to make htan I thoughtit would be and unfortunately, if you’re wanting to make this for this year, it’s way too late for you.
You see, I made a fatal error.
I thought I would be able to track down one of the few varieties of pumpkin flavoured liquor or food additive, other than pumpkin soup stock. Bols and Hiram Walker make a pumpkin liqueuer, but there’s simply nowherein Australia that sells it. Possibly because we’re not pumpkin obsessed weirdoes like the Americans, and no one here in their right mind considers a pumpkin pie to be a suitable dessert… Not when there’s Pavlova flavoured schnapps to drink.
So I had to make the pumpkin liqueur by infusing white rum with some smashed pumpkin seeds.
Now remember, this is a punch, so if the amounts seem excessive, technically speaking, it’s meant to be more than a single person’s serve. Technically…
Glass: Tumbler / Punch cup
Ingredients:
- 2L Sauvignon Blanc / Classic Dry White wine (casked is fine)
- 1L Apple Juice
- 700ml Pumpkin seed infused Vodka or Gin – Gin makes a much drier flavour, so don’t use it if you’re using the classic dry white wine.
- Smashed Pumpkin Seeds
- Diced Apple
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
Method: Build it all up, stir vigorously in a pot / cauldron, then ladle it all out over ice into a glass.
Garnish: just the little bits of fruit floating around should do. Otherwise, some creepy Halloween crap should do, like spiders skewered underneath some jelly teeth to make Cthulu mouth or something.
