aka Let’s run a goth lifestyle expo in Australia!

Wow… I cannot believe I forgot to put it on here, of all places until now.

A place where people can be as truly bizarre as they wish *sniff*

Ok,those of you that have me on Facebook are aware that I’m wanting to put on a sort of goth / emo / metalhead / dark alternative kind of lifestyle expo. If you’d like to see this happen, help me out a little and fill in my survey so I know what the hell I should be doing.

Australian Gothic Expo Market Research Survey

Not like a festival with bands & shit. Rather, a big hall with traders, some activities, a couple live performances, entertainment, ra ra ra…

There are events like this in the US and in Germany already. Why not here in Australia? What’s that? We already have one? No… No we don’t.

It was on this weekend, btw

For starters, I’m not talking about something like Under The Blue Moon is in NSW. This event is not meant to be like Blue Moon is, although it is meant to have similarities, obviously, because it’s appealing to much ofthe same crowd.

The differences lie in the distinction between a festival and an expo/convention. A festival takes over an entire area, something that specific suburbs of Sydney readily caters for, but is sorely lacking in Melbourne. It’s also meant to be more like a trade show that’s open to the public. Similar to SupaNova or Sexpo, but with the focus being solely on goths. Or like Convergence in Utah (Utah?! O_o) and the National Gothic Convention in Pennsylvania (yeah, they couldn’t resist, could they?).

The event could be run in large, ornate buildings, such as the Royal Exhibition Biulding.... mmm, classy

Another difference lies in the events that can be run. A festival gives you open air entertainment, live bands, and things put on by local businesses. An expo gives you staged events. There’d be appearances by authors and actors, photo-ops, booths with businesses of a specialised nature, and so forth, as well as all the things like shopping, fashion shows, and live music.

I’d like this to happen. The feedback I’ve been given by a number of people has been encouraging. But in order to make this work, I need more than the people that actually like me to show up, or at least, give me the info I need to ensure that this event actually appeals to the people it’s meant to.

More details to come as they happen.
