If there’s something that goths know how to do, it’s straddling. So why not take this concept to the club scene itself?

Faith does that, straddling two nights and two venues on a weekly basis, even if I only made it to one of them in particular.

There was no smoke machine, this was just humidity

Having been up in Brisbane last weekend for the QLD edition of SupaNova (No, I will not fucking get you James Masters’ signature! Line up like everyone else, you slacker!) and deciding that what I needed to do every night while there was imbibe copious amounts of booze and listen to metal and/or industrial, I decided that this could not be done in my apartment every night. If for no other reason than certain MadMan employees don’t like industrial, and certain Siren Visual employees don’t like that much booze.

So finding some local tamagothies at the foot of the city mall, I proceeded to ask where things were, as Phoenix was no longer Phoenix but still apparently abysmal. They recommended Faith… and then didn’t actually show up.

Is it just me, or is there one of these at EVERY club?

Is it just me, or is there one of these at EVERY club?

Now as mentioned previously Faith is on in two different venues. Fridays it’s now at Rockafella’s, 239 Brunswick.st in Fortitude Valley (which I’ll check out next year, I guess, if it’s still on), and on Saturday, the night I went, at the Transcontinental just near the edge of the CBD.

Venue wise, Transcontinental is a pretty decently sized place. Whilst I didn’t ask the staff, I’d say it could easily be licensed for 300-380 in the upstairs area alone (just like at Insignia, goths aren’t allowed downstairs). And quite importantly for anywhere in Brisbane, it’s airconditioned with refridgerative airconditioning as opposed to evaporative. Thermally speaking, it was the coolest place I’d been all weekend.

Luckily, there was a pretty good selection of booze

It’s a pity that I’m speaking in the thermal sense only though. Whilst the music was good, and you regular readers should know how picky I am when it comes to DJs actually playing new stuff or at least mixing the old, the club itself was pretty much dead. There were perhaps 40 people in there for the entire time we were, and true to goth club form, most of them were outside smoking. Now, 40 people in the right venue can make a club seem like a happening place. Gulag, for instance, would be over crowded with 40. The Mana Bar is barely even licensed for that many. Transcontinental – Way too large… And according to the door staff, this was a pretty average night. I shudder to think what would happen to a club in Melbourne or Sydney if they ran at a venue that large and got that kind of crowd.

Oh yeah, and heres the flier

This place scores highly for price and music, but drops a hell of a lot in terms of crowd and interaction. I’m awarding 9 gawth points and an emo.
