Not actually a stand up comedy gig

Not actually a stand up comedy gig

Normally, I try to keep myself out of this blog. My own personal life is not as entertaining (well, with the exception of my standup comedy featuring tentacles) as my inane ranting.

But I figure this may well be of interest to many of you, my dear readers. You see, you may have pegged me as something of a nerd. A geek. As socially graceful as my wardrobe is filled with bright colours and matching patterns. Frankly, I’m not sure what gave it away. The constant science fiction references, that I currently run the Melbourne Anime Festival, the collection of vintage calculators and Atari 2600 cartridges… Aren’t these the trappings of normal people?

I digress… The point is that I’ve recently acquired the SF&F bookstore Of Science & Swords.

Those of you in Melbourne may already be aware of it, but for those outside of Melbourne (or just aren’t aware of it), it’s basically going to be your one stop shop for Science Fiction, Fantasy, Paranormal and Alt.History books. We’ll be stocking them at cheaper prices than the vast majority of competitors (such as certain pop culture shops run by mythical greek monsters), and getting numerous releases in before major chains do as we’re not bound to local distributors only.

And if we don’t havesomething on shelf, we can usually get it in and mailed out to you in less than two weeks.

What we won’t have are comics, DVDs or books on the occult.  There’s a good chance we can do a special order for you, but it won’t be our stock in trade, and it certainly won’t be on the shelves of the store, unless we’re doing a movie tie in or something.

Youd buy books from this man, wouldnt you?

You'd buy books from this man, wouldn't you?

For those that are already regular customers, don’t worry, Chris / Ruz will still be at the store (we own him now! Would you like us to make him dance?), still writing his own SF shorts and handing out handy info on modern SciFi books, still being generally handsome and jumping over things. Naturally, this means that the store is staffed, so no, we don’t have a job for you at the store. Sorry.

We will be doing discounts (VIPs or associated clubs – ask in store), sales, tie-ins where we can, and the odd knick knack of a promotional bit. Gift vouchers too! If you’re too lazy to think of a good book for a friend, pretend to be considerate and let them decide with a gift voucher!

End of shameless plug.

Blog resumes.

  1. [...] I had far too much bandwidth left and a surfeit of free time due to a bit of a SNAFU regarding the bookstore I just purchased. I thought to myself, what a grea time to catch up on all of those movies that have come out [...]
