Euchronia – A Steampunk New Year’s Eve
11/12/10

Ring in the new year with the sounds of brass bells, grinding gears, and alcohol saturated steampunks, for Euchronia is on again.
Euchronia is smashing New Year’s Eve party if one is intending to “gawth it up”, or of a want to cosplay, has not been invited to a high society function, or merely wishes to avoid the blaggards that abound during the year’s end.
A number of years ago, 2008 to be precise, the first Eucrhonia was held with such abandon that it sold out within a mere two weeks of it being announced as ready to accept attendees of a higher social breeding and character! Which is to say, those with enough ready money to acquire a ticket. The Trade’s Hall building was so packed, that one felt like a coal miner’s sleeping quarters, if you know what I mean. Jolly gay time, that, but far too sweaty for those in their proper social attire!
Thankfully, the chappies that run the whole darned show have learnt from that resounding successes of the event and decided on a more appropriate, if not misplaced, loction.
This year’s ball is being held at The Substation in Newport, which is near Williamstown for those intent on taking the railway. Cabriolle will get you there, too, but may cost a guinea or two. One wants to be there sharpish as doors are opening at 9:00pm.
So why is Euchronia the talk of high society?
A good question, and one well answered. Beginningly, the far majority of goth clubs, for a New Years Eve party by what are likley to slap you for at least double the standard entry fee. Then they have the urddy cheek to provide you with nothing outside of the regular goth club experience! There may be more people, certainly. Or some slightly better musicians playing recordings. And one’s more likely to find that people that are still bachelors or available women are even more likely to display moral vices in such a manner that one could get a slap’n'tickle’n'how’s-your-mother with a person you’ve not been formally introduced to by way of polite society in the W.C. shortly afore dawn… But all in all, it’s the same experience as one expects to get on a night that is well attended anyway.
Conversly, Euchronia, has entertainments!
Whilst, yes, you are going to get discotheque jokecys playing the latest in recordings on wax cylinders, there also a host of other activities, including bands (Theremina, Bent Leather Band, Rouge Fonce, Sforzando), a range of dance performances such as fire, burlesque and belly, as well as a shopping bazaar (in case you don’t have the correct acessories already) and an art exhibition (which one can be a part of if you get in touch, sharpish like!).
And the drinks! Let me tell you about the drinks! If you enjoy your vintage libations, or visits to 1806, then the liquor available shall not disappoint – No sir! And never you mind the fact that there’s absinthe that is (or at least, was) prepared properly! If the aforementioned entertainment doesn’t suffice, then there’s always the entertainment to be had after people have imbibed far too much!
So this merely leaves you with the problem of where to acquire the tickets!
Tickets may be purchased through the Euchronia site, or you can actually get them in person from Of Science And Swords, for $70. Or, you can wait like a chump and hope to get them at the door for $85.
