[NSW] Ironfest
09/04/12
Egofreaky| April 21, 2012 9:00 am | to | April 22, 2012 8:00 pm |
You know how there are all those Medieval Fairs in the US that look really freaking cool and you wonder why we can’t ever have nice things like that here in Australia (Other than the fact that it would be amazingly anachronistic because that culture never existed here outside of the minds of LARPers)?
Apparently we do… it’s justĀ that they’re a massive pain in the arse to get to. Like, three confusing hours out of Sydney by car, or slightly less by train, but you have to deal with the weird looks you get on the train for being fully gothed up or in plate armour.
You see, the small town of Lithgow is home to IronFest, Australia’s premier medieval reenactment event + a whole bunch of other fantasy stuff because steampunks existed precisely never in History, no matter how cool it is.
For those of you wishing to get there, it’s held at the Lithgow Showgrounds, aka Tony Luchetti Sprtsground.
The event has been running long enough that it’s even received some decent news coverage. Even Al-Jazeera has gotten on board… Probably cursing the Infidel Crusaders, but you know, all publicity is good publicity.
So if you’re after a day of merriment, jousting, juggling, birds of prey, unhygenically prepared meats on big sticks, armour made from modern technologies and general good fun, it’s worth checking out.
Prices vary from $28 per person prepaid, to $130 for a whole family at the gate. If you’re going to definitely go for sure, the prepayment option will save you enough money for some mead.
