Here’s an interesting one out of Sydney: It’s not a nightclub, but rather a dayclub. It’s specifically meant to be a social event for the older crowd to gather at a time that’s mroe conducive to career and family life.
We suppose it was only a matter of time before the reality of aging set in, and that we’re not actually vampires (the real kind that don’t sparkle and hit on 15 year old girls) and we can’t keep living the nightlife forever. Here’s the marketing copy:
In the mood for good tunes, cheap drinks and a few laughs? Come on down to Delirium on the 4th Sunday of each month!
DJs spinning the best in goth, indie, shoegaze, post-punk and wave. We’re all ages, and kid-friendly, too!
We’ve got happy hour drink prices. $5 shots, wines, spirits and imported beers. $3.90 Carlton draughts. We’ve got breakfast til 4pm (for all your afternoon bacon requirements)
We’ve got bloody delicious $9 pizzas. And it’s free!Broadway Lounge is roomy, has lots of seating, and has a spacious outside area bit, if you like that outdoors stuff. There’s also 3 hours free parking at Broadway Shopping Centre, just down the road.
You’ll hear bands such as The Cure, Violent Femmes, Psychedelic Furs, Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, She Wants Revenge, Blur, Blondie, Stone Roses, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks, The Damned, Happy Mondays, Elastica, Madness, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Jam, The Pixies….
We used to attempt something like this in Melbourne, back in the Heresy days. There was a weekly Wednesday afternoon with nachos, cheese’n'tomato toasties, and discounted dark beers. It died out in the end as the business crowd kept complaining to the bar staff about the goths there >_<
