[QLD] The Bat Cave
06/05/11

This is more research than I’ve ever had to do before for a club I haven’t even been to, especially when it’s something I’ve been asked to post up. I’m sure that people in Brisbane know where shit is, but half the point of something like a flier is to attract people that have never been to your event before. For instance, when I was in Brisbane last Feb, I looked up the various forums and found pretty much nothing but out of date posts for clubs that were supposedly weekly but had since moved, or a bunch of fliers… without any address on them.
I can’t say I’ve been to the Step Inn before. My problem here is that, as an out-of-towner, I have no clue where it is, and it’s not listed on the flier (see inset). Having done some research, I’ve discovered it’s 186 Brunswick.st, Fortitude Valley.
Hoorah! I know where to go now.
Cynicism aside, it’s being put on by people behind Switch and Crypt, both clubs I have been to before and had a pretty decent time (except for the humidity, but hey, that’s QLD for you – I just don’t think “steamy” should ever be a literal adjective for a goth club is all).
Doors open at 10pm and the fun continues till 5, with live bands, free stuff, and if history repeats itself, some unannounced drink specials.
Entry fee is $10.
[VIC] Steampump II
08/04/11
Egofreaky| May 7, 2011 7:00 pm | to | May 8, 2011 12:00 am |
The Steampunk scene is really starting to take off in Victoria…
… because we’re Victorian (ahahahaaa…)
… and we’ve gotten a nice little thing going with Steampump. Not a nightclub so much as just an interesting evening out. Situated in the Donkey Wheel House (673 Bourke.st, Melbourne – I applied for a job there, once), a private property that means whilst there’s no alcohol sold on site you are more than welcome to bring your own and use the fridge. This is fantastic for those of you that are sick to death of places not having your favourite liquor.
It’s a night of romping good fun with beards, Burlesque dancers, bareknuckle boxing, comedians mothers, magic, mechanics, rayguns, tarot, time travelling trousers, and light refreshments provided by beloved DJ Matypus.
So if you get off on seeing a lady’s bared ankle and enjoy electro-swing played by monkeys eating pancakes, I recommend taking large quantities of psilocybin, or going to Steampump.
Tickets are $45 at the door, and the night goes from 7pm until midnight.
More info and tickets can be found on the Steampump webpage, or facebook event.

Sin gets naughty with a Uniform theme night to get everyone in the mood to party like when we were in the motherland.
Dj’s Jon Madd and Smut are prepping all their best music for the night so get ready, get dressed and be set to party with us.
It will be a killer mix of Electro, Eighties, Industrial and all the things that fell in between the cracks.
Doors open from 10pm and we go till late.

Vampyre Blood
01/04/11
EgofreakyApologies if the formatting on this one’s a little odd. I’m writing it via email from my phone. And I’ve got to admit that this one isn’t actually mine. I found it on the cocktail menu, of all places, of a La Porchetta.
However, it fits the theme and is still rather enjoyable, so why not?
Glass: Highball
Ingredients:
- 30ml Chambord
- 30ml Strawberry liqueur
- 150ml Blood orange soft drink
- ice
Method:
Build the drink over ice. For a more dramatic effect, shake the liquor in a strainer with a gumming agent, such as egglike, and get it to float through the blood orange soda like clots.
Garnish:
Don’t bother. This ones for parties, not presentation. If you have to make it fancy, see if you can find some red Sago beads that can sit at the bottom.
