[VIC] Requiem

For some time Melbourne was the unequaled goth capitol of Australia. Sure, Sydney has it’s Blue Moon Festival… but we have architecture, and coffee available at 3am. Things to do outside the immediate CBD at those hours, too. And then, for some inexplicable reason (known as internal politik or simply “bitching about people”) it all fell apart and we were left with only the two (if you don’t count the fetish clubs).
After many moons in the doldrums, it seems that’s changing and we’re finally seeing something new! (more…)
[VIC] DV8 World Goth Day Special
06/05/11
Egofreaky| May 21, 2011 10:00 pm | to | May 22, 2011 5:00 am |
Now I’m pretty certain that World Goth Day started as a joke and quickly got out of hand, like those Zombie Shuffles and gay pride marches. Sure, now it’s for a charity… but let’s face it, charity is quite literally for losers. OK, maybe I’m just being really harsh about this one because it’s hosted by DV8, the only nightclub where the floor has been so sticky I have literally lost a shoe. Naturally, being a black shoe, at a goth club, it simply blended in and I never found it again. I’ll miss that shoe, it buckled up nicely.
My shoes aside (oh GODS I miss them!!!), DV8 has been running for a while and attempts to be a pan-dark-subcultural club. You’ve got a floor for trad goth, a floor for metal, and a floor for live performances (read: metal & punk). That being said, if people don’t keep drinking or the club’s quiet, everything does tend to get smooshed into the one level.
[VIC] Neo Grind
Egofreaky| May 13, 2011 10:00 pm | to | May 14, 2011 5:00 am |
For those of you that are more into the fetish end of Gawth culture, and locatedi n Melbourne, you’re probably already aware of Abode, and the gawfikly inclined nights it runs Neo and Sinthetic.
And you’re probably aware of how unfair it is that we see all these awesome clubs in movies like Preaching to the Perverted where they’ve got people suspended by their back flab in mid-air, or someone’s applying powertools to their crotch for the amusement of everyone else…
Well, at least the powertools to the crotch part is happening, courtesy of Neo Grind. It’s also featuring live acts, and if you’re one of the lucky people with access to the members area, probably live play.
For backflab suspension, there are places in Northcote.
Nestled in Abode in the heart of StKilda, it’s easy to get to, easy to get away from, and located a short walk to a mass of drug dealers and quality restaurants.
Tickers are $25 (possible more at the door) and available from http://www.showclix.com/event/34165/
