The Steampunk scene is really starting to take off in Victoria…

… because we’re Victorian (ahahahaaa…)

… and we’ve gotten a nice little thing going with Steampump. Not a nightclub so much as just an interesting evening out. Situated in the Donkey Wheel House (673 Bourke.st, Melbourne – I applied for a job there, once), a private property that means whilst there’s no alcohol sold on site you are more than welcome to bring your own and use the fridge. This is fantastic for those of you that are sick to death of places not having your favourite liquor.

It’s a night of romping good fun with beards, Burlesque dancers, bareknuckle boxing, comedians mothers, magic, mechanics, rayguns, tarot, time travelling trousers, and light refreshments provided by beloved DJ Matypus.

So if you get off on seeing a lady’s bared ankle and enjoy electro-swing played by monkeys eating pancakes, I recommend taking large quantities of psilocybin, or going to Steampump.

Tickets are $45 at the door, and the night goes from 7pm until midnight.

Once again, the dark fashions come out and it’s time to see what people will be wearing out to clubs until the world’s end 2012, but contrary to popular belief, the world does not end with you. Dammit, why do you have to be so conceited?

It had to happen sooner or later: Brisbane has a Steampunk club, and that is Prometheus Bound.

We perceived a growing need for a Steampunk community locus in Brisbane and created Prometheus Bound to showcase local, interstate and international entertainers and artists.
We recognise that people attracted to the Steampunk aesthetic come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we aim to cater for a variety of tastes. In addition to hosting performances, artists and live music we have resident DJs who will be spinning a selection of emergent steampunk inspired music as well as established alternative favourites.

I think what they didn’t take into consideration is how amazingly hot steampunk fashions tend to be, but nuts to that, because we all like to dress up in our top hats, tails and petticoats. Sometimes all at once

Ring in the new year with the sounds of brass bells, grinding gears, and alcohol saturated steampunks, for Euchronia is on again.

Euchronia is smashing New Year’s Eve party if one is intending to “gawth it up”, or of a want to cosplay, has not been invited to a high society function, or merely wishes to avoid the blaggards that abound during the year’s end. (more…)
