Let’s face it, the human body is not very well designed. It’s quite possibly one of the largest flaws in Creationism theory, because if we were made in the image of a perfect God, we’d certainly have limbs that are a lot more functional than the ones we have now. There are plenty of reasons why our bodies are actually poor design, from the wiring of our visual cortex, to the number of genetic abberations that can occur during reproductive process, to the general impracticality of our limbs.

Which is why it’s such a good thing that someone’s looking for ways to improve upon our design in both a functional, and aesthetically pleasing manner! (more…)

Egofreaky

I recently had this theory that shoes feature so much in pornography because of stupid old ordinances relating to obscenity.

My basic premise was that the reason that shoe wearing is so prevalent in pornography is because at some point during the Victorian or Edwardian periods, pornographic material was considered obscene, and being caught with photographs of nude subjects could land you in a particularly large amount of trouble as you were handling or dealing in obscenities. Oddly enough, this lead to people figuring out ways to hide their porn on teeny-tiny little slides and led to the invention of micro-fiche. True story! Anyway, I figured that pornographers, when busted, would attempt to get out of it on the legal technicality that the models weren’t actually nude because they were wearing shoes – and as this went on for some time, it became to be perceived as normal (at least in pornography). So it turns out my standup comedy is actually starting to be appreciated in more than a single location… The internet that is.

I’ve been booked in to do a gig at Spleen.

For those that are unaware of the Australian, or at least Melburne, comedy circuit, Spleen is one of those venues that can actually make or break you. Camera crews are often present taking footage for ABC specials, or Champagne Comedy. Scouts from various international comedy shows oftne hang out there, particularly during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Even though you don’t get paid, and the venue is dangerously over crowded in order to do so, ther are huge crowds in attendance. Upwards of 200 for a venue that I’m pretty certain is only licensed for 95.

Frustratingly enough for me, this is right in the middle of the crunch period for me, though. Literally the week before the Melbourne Anime Festival, when realistically, I should be concentrating on ensuring that that’s not going to be the abject failure I always fear anything I’m involved with will become (so far, that’s only happened twice).

Either way, I hope to see you there.
